Wilko opened its doors to its Giltbrook store in August, and the homes and garden retailer has enjoyed a positive start to life on the shopping park.
Here we meet its store manager, Dave Ramsay…
How long have you been with Wilko?
I’ve been with Wilko for 10 and a half years – although time has flown so certainly doesn’t feel that long!
What’s your favourite thing about being store manager?
My favourite about being store manager is being able to help our customers in a variety of ways – since opening I’ve had the chance to meet lots of local people and help them find that they need in store. We’ve been fortunate to get some really lovely feedback, too, which is always great to hear.
Managing such a dedicated and hard-working team is another perk of my job. It was been fantastic seeing the team grow together, and there are some hugely talented team members who I am sure will make excellent managers one day.

What do you get up to in your spare time?
As a father of 3 children I have long forgotten what spare time is, but having any type of family time is fantastic.
We love days out as a family to places like Crich Tramway Museum or anywhere that has a playground!!
If you weren’t a store manager extraordinaire, what would you for a job?!
If I wasn’t working for Wilko I’d probably be a Primary School Teacher - that was always what I wanted to be when I was growing up but I had a fear of retaking my Maths GCSE!
Secretly though, I wanted to work for MI5 after watching Spooks, but so far the world is yet to see my true potential in espionage…
